The match, goal by goal
1 of the 4 goals came after half-time.
15' Omar Marmoush (VfB Stuttgart) 1-0
VfB Stuttgart broke the deadlock at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in the 15th minute, when Omar Marmoush put the hosts 1-0 up against Hertha BSC on Matchday 14 of the 2021-22 Bundesliga campaign. It was the first of four goals on December 5, 2021, and it set the early tone for the home side. The afternoon would end level at 2-2, with Marmoush's opener the starting point of a lead that did not hold.
19' Philipp Förster (VfB Stuttgart) 2-0
Just four minutes after the opener, Philipp Förster doubled VfB Stuttgart's advantage in the 19th minute to make it 2-0. Two goals in quick succession inside the first 20 minutes gave the home side a two-goal cushion against Hertha BSC. That margin, however, would not survive the afternoon, as the match finished 2-2.
40' Stevan Jovetić (Hertha BSC) 2-1
Trailing by two, Hertha BSC pulled one back in the 40th minute through Stevan Jovetić, cutting the deficit to 2-1. The goal came shortly before half-time and sent the visitors into the second half only a goal behind. It proved to be the first step of a recovery that Jovetić himself would complete later on.
76' Stevan Jovetić (Hertha BSC) 2-2
Stevan Jovetić struck again in the 76th minute, his second of the match, to bring Hertha BSC level at 2-2. Having been two goals down, the visitors erased the entire deficit through Jovetić's pair. There was no further scoring, and VfB Stuttgart had to settle for a draw after letting a two-goal lead slip.
