3' Serhou Guirassy (VfB Stuttgart) 1-0
VfB Stuttgart struck inside three minutes at the Mercedes-Benz Arena, Serhou Guirassy putting the home side 1-0 up. The early opener gave Stuttgart a lead to work with almost from the start. It would not be enough on its own, as the match went on to be settled only in the dying moments.
19' Dodi Lukébakio (Hertha BSC) 1-1
Hertha BSC hit back in the 19th minute through Dodi Lukébakio, levelling the score at 1-1. The visitors needed only 16 minutes to cancel out Stuttgart's opener, restoring parity well before half-time. That scoreline would hold all the way into second-half stoppage time.
90'+8 Konstantinos Mavropanos (VfB Stuttgart) 2-1
With the game still level at 1-1 deep into stoppage time, Konstantinos Mavropanos scored in the 90+8th minute to put VfB Stuttgart 2-1 ahead. The home side held on, and the goal stood as the winner. It broke a deadlock that had lasted since the 19th minute, settling the match at the very last.
