The match, goal by goal
1 of the 4 goals came after half-time.
3' Deniz Undav (VfB Stuttgart) 0-1
VfB Stuttgart needed only three minutes to break the deadlock at the Europa-Park Stadion. Deniz Undav put the visitors 0-1 up almost straight from the start. It was the first of two goals inside the opening seven minutes that shaped the rest of the afternoon.
7' Chris Führich (VfB Stuttgart) 0-2
Four minutes after the opener, Chris Führich doubled Stuttgart's advantage to make it 0-2 in the 7th minute. SC Freiburg, playing at home, found themselves two goals down before the match had properly settled. With the game ending 1-3, Führich's strike proved to be the winner.
45'+11 Lukas Kübler (SC Freiburg) 1-2
Deep into first-half stoppage time, in the 45+11th minute, Lukas Kübler pulled one back for SC Freiburg to make it 1-2. The goal sent the home side into the break just one behind after their difficult start. It would, however, remain Freiburg's only goal of the match.
74' Maximilian Mittelstädt (VfB Stuttgart) 1-3
With the margin still at one goal in the second half, Maximilian Mittelstädt restored Stuttgart's two-goal cushion in the 74th minute. His goal made it 1-3 and undid the effect of Freiburg's late first-half reply. That remained the final score, completing an away win for VfB Stuttgart.
