79' Ante Rebić (AC Milan) 0-1
With the match still goalless deep into the second half, Ante Rebić broke the deadlock for visiting AC Milan in the 79th minute at the Stadio Carlo Castellani. The opener put Milan 0-1 up against Empoli with little more than ten minutes of regulation time remaining. At that stage it looked as though a single goal might settle the contest.
90'+2 Nedim Bajrami (Empoli) 1-1
Trailing 0-1 as the game entered stoppage time, Empoli drew level in the 90+2nd minute through Nedim Bajrami. His goal made it 1-1 and wiped out the lead Milan had held since Rebić's opener. The home side's parity, however, would not last long.
90'+3 Fodé Ballo-Touré (AC Milan) 1-2
Just one minute after Empoli's equaliser, Fodé Ballo-Touré restored AC Milan's lead in the 90+3rd minute, making it 1-2. The quick exchange of goals in stoppage time swung the match back toward the visitors. Milan did not relinquish the advantage again, making Ballo-Touré's strike the winning goal.
90'+6 Rafael Leão (AC Milan) 1-3
In the 90+6th minute, Rafael Leão added a third for AC Milan, stretching the lead to 1-3. It was the third goal of stoppage time and settled a frantic finish that had seen the lead change hands. The Matchday 8 fixture ended 1-3 in Milan's favour.
