2 of the 4 goals came after half-time.
1' Own goal (Empoli) 1-0
Empoli's home meeting with Bologna in Serie A on 4 May 2023 was barely underway when the scoreline changed. A Bologna own goal in the 1st minute put Empoli 1-0 up. The hosts never surrendered that lead, so the very first goal of the evening proved to be the winner.
45'+1 Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro (Empoli) 2-0
In first-half stoppage time, Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro scored in the 45+1st minute to double Empoli's lead to 2-0. The hosts had protected their 1st-minute advantage through the half, and Akpa Akpro's goal gave them breathing room right before the interval. Empoli went into the break two goals to the good.
68' Nicolò Cambiaghi (Empoli) 3-0
Nicolò Cambiaghi made it 3-0 in the 68th minute. Having started the second half with a two-goal cushion, Empoli used this third goal to pull further clear of Bologna. With little more than 20 minutes left, Cambiaghi's strike effectively put the outcome beyond doubt.
88' Riccardo Orsolini (Bologna) 3-1
Trailing 3-0, Bologna finally got on the scoresheet in the 88th minute through Riccardo Orsolini. His goal made it 3-1, but the visitors' response stopped there. Empoli held on for a 3-1 home win, leaving Orsolini's late strike as Bologna's only goal of the match.
